Alcatraz Island is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area
Tours of Alcatraz Island offer a close-up look at the site of the first lighthouse and US Fort on the West Coast, the infamous penitentiary and more. The island also offers things to do for the Naturalist with gardens, tide pools, bird colonies and more.
Alcatraz Island sells out frequently, often up to a week in advance during the summer and holidays. The National Park Service recommends that you purchase your tickets in advance and go to the island prepared for all different kinds of weather as it can be somewhat unpredictable.
